Went there this weekend just to get out on the water. A paddle boarder told me I need some kind o' pass to go out. It has all kinds o' areas that look good for fishing. I know I will need me freshwater to go. Does anybody know how the fishing be there? How much be a freshwater license? How much id the "pass" to go on the lake?

You can get the pass at Ocean's East. somewhere between 20-40 dolllars. closer to the 40 dollar range as I recall. It did get ye access to all 5 Norfolk reservoirs 3 o' which are waaaaaaaaaay out in the stick near Suffolk. I can tell ye I will never get another one. They closed the ramp at Whitehurst. it was supposed to be full o' Walleye. All I've ever caught there was one 10" walleye a whole lot o' white perch and a huge alligator gar. The pass will get ye into Western Branch (4 trips out to BFE never caught anything worth bringin home). It will get ye into Lake Prince which be supposed to be really good for big bluegill but it be also out in BFE as well as Burnt Mills again BFE. I never fished Lake Smith. They all "look" nice and I'm sure they are full o' fish, I guess I just had bad luck when I went who knows. It wasn't from lack o' trying. I think someone said they found Jimmy Hoffa in Burnt Mills. I've had way better luck at Bobs and the Chickahominy for sodium free fish.

I'm as pissed about the closing o' Lake Whitehurst as anyone - that leaves "locally" only Lake Smith and the "Little Creek Reservoir" - which be right across from Lake Smith and may hold some o' those walleye as I understand they try to go "upstream" to Lake Smith from Lake Whitehurst.

All o' the other lakes are problematical and distant. I think the City o' Norfolk reminds me o' a new vacuum cleaner.

I live on lake Smith, right there on the junction o' Lake Lawson and Lake Smith, (look for the three yellow yaks and blue Old Towne), and I've taken me Doberman on boat trips on the neighbor's pontoon boat, and had walleye the size o' me doberman's back, jump 2 ft in the air, smack the Doberman in the face, and plop on deck.
Most delicious walleye I ever had!!!

**Now when I'm fly fishing for anything, I swear there's a algae bloom going on every time, thats me excuse and I'm sticking to it**

i didnt know ye had to get a pass to the norfolk lakes for a plastic vessel?i was under the impression that ye didnt need one :?: that sucks because i put it on me jon boat. i have had good luck out at western branch. caught a couple 5lb plus large mouths. the only thing i can seem to get anything on out there be sinkos though or rubber worms. dunno anything about the other lakes though.
